Austrian 4 Ducat Gold Coin 1915 Austria-Hungary

This design was first used in 1872, when Franz Joseph headed the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy for 68 years, making him one of the longest-serving monarchs of modern times.

Franz Joseph I features on the obverse of the coin, with the coat of arms of Austria and a double-headed Imperial Eagle on the reverse. Franz Joseph I who is still known to people today as ‘Franzl’ or as the husband of Elisabeth (‘Sissi’).
